Managing an effective mental health response in the aftermath of a catastrophe is a challenge, even to experienced disaster officials. These after affects must be dealt with in addtion to dealing with adverse reactions from those with more common psychological problems and psychiatric disorders, including those with ADHD symptoms, anxiety, and phobias. Numerous recovery tasks must be addressed quickly:
- Recovery steering committees: Operationalized;
- Recovery roles: Delegated;
- Resources: Assessed, prioritized, & reallocated;
- Employee stress & morale: Assessed and monitored;
- Critical objectives & tasks: Identified & assigned timeframes;
- Counseling & support: Guidelines for staff & clients established;
- Relationships with other key response agencies: Clarified & coordinated;
- Needs assessment;
- Disaster plan revisions as needed;
- Training programs designed and implemented accordningly.
- On-going evaluation and implemenation process established.
