Managing an effective mental health response in the aftermath of a catastrophe is a challenge, even to experienced disaster officials. Numerous recovery tasks must be addressed quickly:

  • Resources: Assessed, prioritized, & reallocated;
  • Employee stress & morale: Assessed and monitored;
  • Critical objectives & tasks: Identified & assigned timeframes;
  • Counseling & support: Guidelines for staff & clients established;
  • Relationships with other key response agencies: Clarified & coordinated;
  • Needs assessment; 
  • Disaster plan revisions as needed;
  • Training programs designed and implemented accordningly. 
  • On-going evaluation and implemenation process established.
